“We are a charity, supported by Camden Council and other charities. We’re open to local community groups and we run supplementary classes for school children on the weekends and after school to help with English and Maths. We also help people improve their computer skills through computer training courses. The center can be hired out to local Kilburn community groups to run their own classes.”

About the river:

He didn’t know about the River Westbourne but was intrigued to find out that it was the river, as “Cye- bourne” that possibly gave Kilburn it’s name. He had always wondered where the name had come from.

“We’ve been here nearly 18 years now, we opened in 1995. There’s been a lot of change, all the shops around here and on Kilburn High rd have been changing, closing down and new ones opening. We’ve got an old photo from the 1800’s and it shows our restaurant was a green grocers. There was also a Chinese restaurant here. No-one else has been successful in this spot but us, we’re doing really well.”

About the river:

“My landlord told me that there used to be a river here, running from Messina Ave and down Kingsgate rd. His grandfather was the one who told him about the river.”

About Kilburn:
“It’s an interesting area. Here (Kingsgate rd) is so quiet but just up there is Kilburn High Rd and it’s so busy. I’ve never seen any violence here, it’s a safe area.”

About Kilburn:
“This area is in constant flux. There are many different people and ethnic communities, interesting places like the Tricycle and quirky restaurants. Kilburn is vibrant and constantly changing. The park (Kilburn Grange Park) and its development, such as that of the adventure playground, is important to the area and has created a greater sense of community.”
About the River Westbourne:
“During really heavy monsoon type rains our basement floods and you can hear a roiling, rocky, mud sliding noise, as if everything has liquefied. The basement’s flooded three times now. The waters rise up and everything floats. We used to store archives down there but we can’t anymore. Also, we used to store old film but when it flooded they became stuck together with mud and had to be separated and pulled apart.”

I love Kilburn. I’ve lived here since 1996 and had the business for ten years now. I know the local people and they are all really good people, at first it can be hard to know them but once you start to chat you see they are all such good people. It’s a good community here. On Monday through to Friday I have my local regulars come in, on Saturdays I get people from all over London who come for the shopping on Kilburn High Rd and on Sundays people come after Mass from the two local churches.

As part of the Blue-Flower-River Project, Helene Latey is asking local shops to show a Blue Flower plant from their windows.
First stop: Priory Tavern
250 Belsize Road  London, Greater London NW6 4BT

Merlin Griffiths is the manager.

He said:
The Priory Tavern has been a pub for a long time, used to be called the Truman pub in the 20’s and 30’s. Being an old pub there are regulars who’ve been coming for close to 20 or 30 years and you get a real cross section of generations coming through. You never know who you’ll meet or what stories you’ll hear.

About the River: On wet rainy days you can hear things gurgling deep in the brick work of the basement.

Irish I’ve met first Irish men who were living here in Irish’s immigrant generation..
The building which contains WHS, clacks and some clothes shops, were used to be modern shopping  centre and there’s an escalator connect outside and 1st floor.
Fire caused from somewhere at his flat and burnt whole house so he had to move out from the house.
He’s moving Thailand, Ireland and London and it sounds very nice way of life, hope your injury recover well.

I couldn’t find a photograph of her, so I’ve drawn;)
As everyone said today, she thinks it is good that many shops gathered here. But sadly people don’t care about the area, for example a man walked in front of her littered on the road with wrapping paper of burger. People shouldn’t do this if they live here, and we agree it is important to care about the area and people, as we are making where we live.
Soon afterwards hearing her words just smile is needed for us and everyone must be good person, I felt very comfortable to call out people.

#street snaps
An Australian Lady (Thanks for coming back to talk to me!)
She lived here for 6 months and is going to leave Kilburn for Italy to work.
As with the previous comment, she thinks this area is quite handy in terms of the various shopping stores and its proximity to central London. However she said she wouldn’t raise children here because there’s nothing for children to do.

She yelled “What the hell was I doing last night!”. It was a nice coincidence for me:)
